In 1942, Eva is forced to flee Paris after the arrest of her father, a Polish Jew。 Finding refuge in a small mountain town, she begins forging identity documents for Jewish children escaping to neutral Switzerland。 But erasing people comes with a price, and along with a mysterious, handsome forger named Rémy, Eva realises she must find a way to preserve the real names of the children who are too young to remember their own identities。

When Rémy disappears and the resistance cell they work for is betrayed, the records they keep in The Book of Lost Names become even more crucial to remembering the truth。。。

A present day discovery of the book leaves researchers fascinated by its origins and desperate to decipher its codes。 Only Eva holds the answer but will she have the strength to face old memories and help reunite those lost during the war?

Wonderful book about the history of moving Jewish children from France to Switzerland during WWII。

What a fantastic book that is a true page turner。 It was interesting to learn about forgers and their efforts to save Jews during WWII。 Fast paced plot, likable characters, and a great ending。

Kristin Harmel has once again written a very moving and eye-opening book about the plight of the Jews and the French Resistance during WWII。

An excellent bookThis book was spellbinding! From start to finish it keeps you on the edge of your seat。 The characters were so well written that it made you feel like you knew them personally。 I recommend this book to anyone who loves to read!

Although at times I felt like their were scenes and plot twists in this book that were too simplistic and trite for my tastes, overall the gripping story line kept my interest throughout the book and I enjoyed the book。 As a comparison, I had read "A Woman of No Importance" by Sonia Purnell, which is a non-fiction book about the Resistance in France during WWII, and I thought that presented a much more accurate, grittier and realistic view of what it was like to be in the underground in France d Although at times I felt like their were scenes and plot twists in this book that were too simplistic and trite for my tastes, overall the gripping story line kept my interest throughout the book and I enjoyed the book。 As a comparison, I had read "A Woman of No Importance" by Sonia Purnell, which is a non-fiction book about the Resistance in France during WWII, and I thought that presented a much more accurate, grittier and realistic view of what it was like to be in the underground in France during the war, and the kind of stress people were operating under。 In this book, the main character doesn't seemed to be that stressed by the situation she's in, and the lack of concern about keeping everything secret and not being discovered by the Germans is almost laughable。 To me, it almost felt like the author didn't do enough research into how difficult it would have been to do what is described in the book, and to me that makes the story feel like it doesn't quite have the depth I would expect。 With those qualifications, I would still recommend this book。 。。。more

I've read a lot of books about people saving Jewish folks from Germany。 This is an easy read focusing on the work of the person forging documents to facilitate the process。 I've read a lot of books about people saving Jewish folks from Germany。 This is an easy read focusing on the work of the person forging documents to facilitate the process。 。。。more

Another interesting WW II book。 So many different stories of those who risked so much to save others。

Found myself tearing up on several chapters。 The horror and the loss of WW2 brought back to life in this heartfelt tale of a woman's courage to make a difference! A fantastic book。 If you get a chance to listen to the audio book it really adds to it。 I read a book quite similar to it a few years ago, I wish I could remember it's name! Almost put this aside, but am glad I didn’t。 The story of a young forger during WW2。 Interesting that it was based on true accounts。 Will need to look into this further。 Started out as a book written by a juvenile writer or for young readers, but it did finally “grow up” and became more enjoyable。 4* for the historical information。

4。5 stars; I really loved this book, despite the fact that I had just read a WWII novel a week or two ago and find it hard to read books about this topic so close together。 However, I loved the storyline of Eva, a young woman who forges documents for Jews so that they can leave France and find safety in Switzerland。 In addition to the historical details in this novel, I loved the love story as well。。。。 I'm pressing this into the hands of any friend who enjoys historical fiction。 4。5 stars; I really loved this book, despite the fact that I had just read a WWII novel a week or two ago and find it hard to read books about this topic so close together。 However, I loved the storyline of Eva, a young woman who forges documents for Jews so that they can leave France and find safety in Switzerland。 In addition to the historical details in this novel, I loved the love story as well。。。。 I'm pressing this into the hands of any friend who enjoys historical fiction。 。。。more

While I appreciated the story and new knowledge about forging documents during WWII, I didn't feel this was a really well written book。 The plot was predictable and I felt the thought-process of the main character was hard to buy into given the circumstances。 While I appreciated the story and new knowledge about forging documents during WWII, I didn't feel this was a really well written book。 The plot was predictable and I felt the thought-process of the main character was hard to buy into given the circumstances。 。。。more

I loved, loved, loved this book! I never thought how important a role and how many lives were saved in WWIi by forgers。 Some of the characters who would seem like victims were evil and a others who are usually portrayed as evil were kind and brave which goes to show how dangerous stereotypes can sometimes be。 The only thing that prevented me from giving these 5 stars is that the last scene was completely hokey and contrived。

Bailey Whitefield

A little slow to get to the point but by the end I was wanting to know more about the main characters and sad the book was over。

Loved this story--I did not expect the ending。。。

Enjoyed the history , life stories and romance。

Incredible story; again, learned something new about a facet of life during WW2。The ending, though happy with how it turned out, seemed a bit rushed and forced。

Books don’t often make me cry, but this one was such an emotional rollercoaster that by the end, I was in tears。 Incredibly moving, this is one of those books that will stick with me for a long time。

This is a beautifully written book covering a different aspect of life in occupied France in the cluttered World War 2 book market。 It concerns Eva, a Jew who becomes a master forger of documents to enable children and adults to escape into Switzerland from Nazi occupied France。 The story accurately portrays the deprivations and tenseness of living in those days。 Adding to the friction, Eva's mother is constantly opposing Eva and her work but even that aspect has a bitter sweet resolution。 I did This is a beautifully written book covering a different aspect of life in occupied France in the cluttered World War 2 book market。 It concerns Eva, a Jew who becomes a master forger of documents to enable children and adults to escape into Switzerland from Nazi occupied France。 The story accurately portrays the deprivations and tenseness of living in those days。 Adding to the friction, Eva's mother is constantly opposing Eva and her work but even that aspect has a bitter sweet resolution。 I did find Eva's guilt that everything that happened to those around her was her fault, a little tiring。 However that did not detract from a lovely story well told。The conclusion was unexpected but touching though I would have liked just a couple more pages to complete the story with a few more details。 However a great read。 。。。more
